Why some people are more likely to get divorced

Nevada residents who get married too young or get married too old may be at a higher risk for a divorce. This is according to the Institute of Family Studies. However, age is just one reason. For instance, those who have daughters may also be more likely to see their marriages end.

The reason is that girls are more likely to survive a stressful pregnancy, and a stressful pregnancy may have to do with issues in a marriage. It is also possible that some fathers would prefer to have sons as opposed to daughters. Those who finished college may have an advantage over those who didn't finish college when it comes to their divorce risk.

According to a 2012 report from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, women with a college degree had a 78 percent chance of seeing their marriage last for 20 years or more. This was compared to just 41 percent for women who only had a high school diploma. People who are deemed to be attractive may be at a higher risk for getting a divorce, and such a distinction may apply for both celebrities and average folks alike. However, it is important to point out that these and other risk factors do not mean that any person is necessarily destined for divorce.

In a divorce, property division, child custody or other disputes may arise. While some of these issues may be resolved privately, this may not always be the case in what may be an emotional time. People who are going through a divorce may want to have their family law attorneys take the lead in negotiating a settlement agreement.
